Legalisation

We are nearly there with legalisation. It seems to have taken an age despite the hurdles and all of Jody's hard work. Next step is to get agreement from the council, pay the taxes, the last of the bills and we are there.

Below are the legalisation drawings (thanks Jody).

House Three Plans

Initial sketch by Charlie Palmer

The house has a curved wall comprised of french windows, which look up into the unspoilt valley. These can be opened in the summer and although the drawing doesnt show it, there is a varanda outside for a spot of chilling, barbeques and looking down over the vineyard and waterfall.

The kitchen and bathroom are at the other end of the house and the bathroom has composting toilets and features the bed rock in its design. In the centre is a woodburner, which is used for both cooking and heating the house. A spiral stair case takes us upstairs where there are two twin bedrooms and the master bedroom which also looks up the valley.

The house is entered on the second floor and by the doorway is going to be the all necessary hot tub.

The Land Plans and Initial Footprints

Jody has done the initail land plans. These are best seen on somewheresouth.com (click on image for full size) if you are on facebook. The reason the initial drawings are so we can begin the legalisation and architectural plans.

A footprint is basically, the area around the house, which was used for practically anything by the farmers over the years. All of this can be incorporated in the overall house designs. These are shown in light grey around the four houses.

Sorting Our the Solar/Ram Pump

A note form Jody: "Basically it has an accumulator which is pressurised with the electric pump. When it reaches pressure a pressure switch turns the pump off, but it still pumps water due to the ram pump valve workingthe same way as the pump we saw. By adjusting the pressure switch you set the height it can pump to - no problem pumping to our tank (25m approx). So the electric motor is only going 50% of the time. I'll get a low voltage switch now, so as soon as the voltage of the battery slips below a preset amount it will urn off, and vice versa, then bingo! automatically route the overflow to the veggie garden and fruit trees!!! Lush."

Let the building begin

Well this is 'on a shoe string budget' house building by Jody, Steve and Kin..... I sadly am still in England, trying to get my business stable!!!

So what has been undertaken. Well this is house one.....what we have called the shop for some reason. It is basically the first dwelling, which we are going to use, as and when we are doing up the rest of the buildings and getting the land sorted....

Jody has as always done a magnificent job and thanks to Steve and Kin too....

Bringing over the three wind turbines in Feb

The ferry is booked and the trailer and bits are bought. Jody comes over on the ferry on the 21st Feb and we collect the three wind turbines. Although in a valley we hope to get these all high enough to begin generating out own power....off the grid.

Natural Moss....

As Jody stripped the first roof off, he discovered thick natural moss in the tiles. His aim is to make a water filter by running the water through the tiled gully.
