Conservatives make pledge on plugs for electric car owners

The political battle for the electric car vote stepped up a gear last week when the Conservative Party pledged that owners of battery powered cars would be guaranteed an overnight charging point.

While the pledge is unlikely to cost much at the moment as there are only a few thousand electric vehicles, it could become very expensive over the next decade.
Experts believe that by 2020 there could be about one million electric cars on the roads.
